Club 9/11 Posters: Electronic Music in Tallinn, 2016–2017

Between 2016 and 2017, I designed a series of event posters for Club 9/11 in Tallinn, promoting electronic music nights featuring both international and local artists.

Each main poster also had to be adapted into various formats for print and web use, from physical promotional materials to banners and social media graphics.

The projects gave me plenty of room to experiment. Rather than building one rigid template for every event, the visual direction could change with the artist and atmosphere – from the layered, almost cosmic imagery of Guy J and the darker portrait treatment for Jay Lumen to the monochrome circuit-board aesthetic of CID Inc.

Looking back at them nearly ten years later, they are also a good snapshot of where my design work was at the time: lots of Photoshop, textures, compositing, typography and a willingness to make things visually complicated. Some choices I would probably make differently today, but that is exactly what makes older work interesting to revisit.

And you never know – give it enough time and some of those old design trends might come back around.
