Viktoria: 1930s Vintage-Inspired Studio Portraits
I don't think any other Printing Technology course has been quite as involved in photography as ours.
On 4 April 2017, I photographed my Tallinn Polytechnic School classmate Viktoria at Direktori Kabinet studio in Tallinn. We were both studying Printing Technology at the time.
We went for a 1930s Hollywood femme fatale look. I had printed out a collection of black-and-white portraits from that era and surrounded Viktoria with them during the shoot. With dramatic lighting, dark clothing and a rose, we tried to recreate some of that classic Hollywood atmosphere.
1930s portrait photography reference.
We started with close-up portraits before experimenting with wider compositions and different poses.
For the final photographs, we discovered that the studio's couch made a rather nice setting too. A good reminder to look around instead of limiting yourself to the original plan.
