Valge lind – Experimental Photo Composite
“White Bird” is an experimental black-and-white composition that I built from multiple photographs through layering and inversion. The resulting image sits between photography and graphic design for me.
I made this during a period when I was travelling often between Estonia and Romania. My flights to Tallinn frequently arrived late at night and the image grew out of that feeling of night, travelling, introspection and longing.
The composition is built around repeating E and O shapes that I photographed: E-s formed by window frames and O-s by handwritten letters and out-of-focus raindrops reflecting light that I photographed on an airplane window.
Influences
The bird is taken from René Magritte’s L’Oiseau de ciel (The Sky Bird, 1966), commissioned by Sabena World Airlines (a nice airplane reference for me) and completed a year before Magirtte’s death.

The title and visual theme are inspired by a poem by Estonian writer Andres Aule. To me, there is something sudden and quietly threatening in it – an atmospheric, slightly eerie feeling that something might happen at any moment.
